US Embassy denies reports of FBI team arriving in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, May 24 -- Media reports claiming that a team from the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived in the country to assist with investigations into the transfer of two and a half million US dollars belonging to the General Treasury to another party are false, the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka says.
A spokesperson for the embassy emphasised that no such team deployed.
The US Embassy further points out that an FBI legal attache stationed at the embassy to coordinate ongoing law enforcement cooperation regarding investigations when a request made, as a standard practice in many countries.
However, accuracy regarding such sensitive investigative matters remains critical, the embassy adds.
