Sri Lanka, Oct. 25 -- Engineers in charge of the Upper Kotmale reservoir state that one spill gate remains open due to continuous heavy rainfall across its catchment areas.

Authorities opened the spill gate following heavy rains in the catchment areas on October 23.

Engineers warn that remaining spill gates risk opening automatically if heavy rains continue over the region.

Authorities urge residents living along both banks of the Kotmale Oya downstream from the dam to remain vigilant and stay on high alert.
