Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- Sri Lanka Railways announced that train operations along the Upcountry Line connecting Colombo Fort, Peradeniya, and Gampola will recommence on October 2.

Cyclone "Ditwah" caused severe damage across 103 locations between Rambukkana and Gampola, resulting in 36 major landslides along with 67 earth slips and rock falls.

The steep gradient of the Rambukkana-Kadugannawa segment created significant technical challenges, which were further compounded by bad weather, a lack of access roads, and the requirement to haul all machinery and supplies strictly via rail.
