Two spill gates of Polgolla Reservoir opened
Sri Lanka, May 13 -- The Polgolla Reservoir engineering office opened two spill gates starting this morning. Rising water levels in the Mahaweli River following persistent rainfall prompted this decision.
A water volume of 3,000 cubic feet per second now discharges into the Mahaweli River through these two gates. Officer-in-charge Engineer Thisara Bandara noted that the volume of water released could increase if rainfall continues. Residents living on both sides of the river and those using the Mahaweli River downstream must remain vigilant.
