Sri Lanka, Nov. 2 -- A massive crowd gathered at the Inland Revenue Department's head office, causing heavy congestion as large numbers of people arrived to obtain their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).

Commissioner General Rukdevi Fernando made this statement during a press conference held in Colombo today (02).

Speaking at the event, Department Media Spokesman Nandana Kumara urged the public to use the online platform to obtain their TIN numbers. He also requested people to refrain from visiting regional offices unless it is an essential matter.

The submission of a TIN number has been made mandatory starting yesterday (01) for eight economic tasks, including banking and financial operations.
