Sri Lanka, April 8 -- People in Thalawakele town report ongoing hardships due to an access road that remains unrepaired four months after a safety wall at the Upper Kotmale Reservoir collapsed during the Ditwah cyclone.

The damaged section connects the Thalawakele Sumana Maha Vidyalaya area to the Thalawakele-Pundaluoya main road and neighbourhoods such as Devsiripura and Holirood.

Authorities closed the road after the collapse caused the surface to crack and split.

Residents noted that these safety walls date back to the construction of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir and emphasised that even travelling through the area on foot has now become extremely dangerous.
