Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- Environmental organisations, civil society groups, and social activists are currently holding a massive protest in front of the "Sobadam Piyasa" Environment Ministry in Battaramulla today (20) to express their opposition to the death of the tusker Kavantissa.

During this protest, which was attended by nearly five hundred people, the protesters unanimously stated that Environment Minister Dhammika Patabendi must immediately resign from his post after taking responsibility for the demise of the tusker Kavantissa.

Our correspondent mentioned that as this protest was being held, protesters were seen hooting and expressing their opposition to officials who came out of and entered the Environment Ministry premises.
