Sri Lanka, April 15 -- Officers received instructions to strictly enforce the law against drivers who modify standardised license plates issued by the Department of Motor Traffic, according to Deputy Inspector General of Police for Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera.

Certain racketeers took advantage of the current situation where the issuance of new number plates remains incomplete to carry out illegal activities.

The Deputy Inspector General noted that some owners of newly registered vehicles are using plates of various colors, leading the Inspector General of Police to notify the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic to regulate these violations.
