Sri Lanka's major reservoirs face sharp drop in water levels
Sri Lanka, Aug. 28 -- Water levels in several major reservoirs across the country continue to decline rapidly due to the prevailing dry weather conditions, according to the Department of Irrigation.
The water capacity of the Senanayake Samudraya has dropped to 18 per cent, whilst the Hurulu Wewa water level stands at 24 per cent. Department figures show that the Athimale Wewa capacity has fallen to 5 per cent, Morawewa to 9 per cent, Veheragala Reservoir to 15 per cent, Kaudulla Wewa to 20 per cent, Padaviya Wewa to 22 per cent, and Tabbowa Wewa to 28 per cent.
