Sri Lanka inflation climbs to 6.5% in June
Sri Lanka, July 22 -- Sri Lanka's National Consumer Price Index reached 6.5% year-on-year in June 2026, marking a notable increase from May's figure.
Data from the Department of Census and Statistics showed the overall index climbing to 222.3, representing a monthly rise of 1.6% driven primarily by food costs.
The food index rose 2.5% over the month to 250.5, bringing annual food inflation to 3.3%.
Non-food categories remained the primary driver of annual inflation, hitting 9.3% in June despite a smaller monthly increase of 0.9%.
Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, narcotics, and household maintenance expenses were the main factors behind the non-food price rises.
