Sri Lanka, Feb. 24 -- A groundbreaking intranasal vaccine that could provide broad protection against various respiratory viruses, bacteria, and allergens is currently under development at Stanford Medicine. This research, led by Sri Lankan born senior author and immunologist Prof. Bali Pulendran, represents a significant move toward a "universal" respiratory vaccine.
According to a study published in the journal Science, the vaccine successfully protected mice against SARS-CoV-2, other coronaviruses, and dangerous bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter baumannii. It even showed effectiveness in reducing reactions to house dust mite allergens.
