Sri Lanka, June 1 -- The Police have announced that all holders of licences of firearms of defensive use must present their firearm to the nearest police station and obtain a special certification six months after obtaining or renewing their licence.

The Police Headquarters stated in a press release that this new decision will be implemented from 2026, based on instructions issued by the Security Council.

Accordingly, the statement notes that in line with the 2026 licence renewal process, licence holders must present their firearms to the nearest police station six months after obtaining the licence, in order to obtain certification confirming firearm's condition and details match the licence.
