Sri Lanka, Oct. 24 -- A soldier has died, and 11 others have been injured after an Army vehicle crashed into a palmyrah tree in the Kiliyankudiyiruppu area along the Mannar-Thalaimannar main road this afternoon (24).

The Army Defender vehicle was travelling from Thalaimannar towards Mannar when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a palm tree by the roadside.

All 12 soldiers travelling in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Pesalai Hospital.

One of the soldiers later succumbed to his injuries, while the remaining 11 were transferred to Mannar District General Hospital for further treatment.
