Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- Sluice gates of the Kotmale Reservoir were reopened today (05), the Irrigation Engineer in charge of the Kotmale Reservoir informed.

Accordingly, a water capacity of around 130 cubic feet per second is scheduled to be released into the Mahaweli River.

Authorities informed people living in low-lying areas on both sides of the Mahaweli River in the Ulapane, Gedioya, Gampola, Peradeniya, and Katugastota areas to remain vigilant, as the water level of the Mahaweli River could rise due to this water release.
