Sleep loss poses major health risks, warns neurologist
Sri Lanka, July 26 -- Lack of sufficient sleep directly affects a person's mental health and wellbeing adversely, and the opinion existing in society that 6 hours of sleep a day is sufficient is a complete myth, said Galle National Hospital Clinical Neurologist Dr. Janaka Vaidyasekara.
He mentioned this delivering a lecture at a special awareness programme held at the Labuduwa Dakhshinapaya Auditorium marking the occasion of World Brain Day.
Citing research data from the US-based National Sleep Foundation, the leading sleep research institution in America, the specialist doctor pointed out that a minimum of 7 hours of sleexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxp is essential for a young person and adult to maintain a healthy brain and body.
