Sri Lanka, July 20 -- A joint tourism package is set to be introduced by Sri Lanka and Vietnam following the launch of direct flights between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism announced.

In a statement issued after VietJet Air commenced its inaugural direct flight on July 18, the Ministry stated that the initiative would focus on promoting religious tourism and expanding cultural, health, and adventure tourism based on the long-standing cultural and religious ties between the two countries.

VietJet Air's entry into the Sri Lankan market was welcomed by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, who wished the airline success in its operations.
