Sri Lanka, May 27 -- Varnakulasuriya Vincent Francis of Samagi Jana Balawegaya was elected as the Chairman of the Vanathavilluwa Pradeshiya Sabha today (27).

He secured 10 votes in a secret ballot held to choose the chairman, while the National People's Power candidate obtained only 8 votes.

The appointment for the Vice Chairman position took place through an open vote, where the National People's Power candidate secured the post with 11 votes, backed by Samagi Jana Balawegaya's support.

The opposing candidate received only 6 votes during this vote.

The election to choose the chairman faced delays previously due to a party taking legal action against the local government election results for this Pradeshiya Sabha.
