Sri Lanka, Oct. 23 -- Family sources report that the first heart surgery performed on Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was successful.

The surgery was carried out due to an emergency condition that arose while she was receiving treatment as an inpatient at a private hospital in Colombo.

However, family sources further stated that another open-heart surgery is scheduled to be performed on her in the near future.
