Sri Lanka, Aug. 16 -- Javelin throw champion Rumesh Tharanga's close rival, Julian Weber of Germany, who currently remains at number 2 in the world rankings, managed to achieve a record throw of 90.40 metres in the European region athletics tournament held yesterday (15).

Accordingly, Julian Weber of Germany stands a chance to surpass Rumesh Tharanga again to become world number 01 in the world rankings updated this week.

However, Rumesh Tharanga and Julian Weber compete together for the first time in the next Diamond League tournament held in Lausanne, Switzerland on August 21, and if he surpasses Weber there, Rumesh Tharanga stands a chance to reach world number 1 again.
