Sri Lanka, Oct. 30 -- Retired Supreme Court Judge V. K. Malalgoda was appointed as the new Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made this appointment, while S. Y. M. Gomes, A. L. A. Azeez, Dr. S. S. S. B. D. H. Jayawardena, and Prof. T. Jayasingam were appointed as the other members of the commission.

The President's Media Division stated that the relevant appointment letters were handed over to the new Chairman and members by Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake this afternoon (30) at the Presidential Secretariat.

These appointments were made for the positions that became vacant following the expiry of the term of office of the Human Rights Commission members.
