Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- A popular restaurant located on Railway Station Road in Ella was ordered to pay a Rs. 1 million fine by the Bandarawela Magistrate's Court yesterday (23) after selling one-litre bottled drinking water above the maximum retail price set by the Consumer Affairs Authority.

The raid was carried out while the establishment sold a one-litre water bottle for Rs. 200.

According to order number 93 of extraordinary gazette number 2430/15 dated April 1, 2025, which was in effect at the time of the raid, the stipulated maximum retail price for a one-litre water bottle was one hundred rupees.
