Sri Lanka, July 15 -- Repair work commenced on the walking path at Independence Square after Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Harsha de Silva highlighted its deteriorating condition and urged authorities to take immediate action.

The Colombo Municipal Council and the Urban Development Authority received a call from de Silva on Monday to urgently repair the popular walking path, as he warned that rocky protrusions posed a safety risk, particularly to elderly walkers.

The MP also questioned why soil brought to repair sections of the path remained unused for months, urging authorities to act before someone sustained a serious injury.

In a post on X on Tuesday, de Silva shared photographs of workers carrying out repairs and welcomed the move.
