Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- The Department of Meteorology says a deep depression over the west-central and adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal is currently moving west-northwestward along the northern Andhra Pradesh and adjoining southern Odisha coast of India.

Although the system is not expected to have a direct impact on Sri Lanka, rainfall over the southwestern parts of the country is expected to continue due to the prevailing wind flow towards the system.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western provinces.

The Meteorology Department said heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres could occur in some areas.
