Sri Lanka, April 17 -- Showers or thundershowers are likely in many parts of the island this afternoon, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Rainfall is specifically expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya district.

Atmospheric conditions are also expected to become favourable for thundershowers during the evening hours across most parts of the country starting from April 20.
