Sri Lanka, May 27 -- An investigation commenced into a cyber threat and extortion network operating under the forged name of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The Police Media Division announced that the scam involves fraudulent emails sent using the name and fake signature of the IGP, as well as the Police Cyber Crime Coordinating Centre.

The police urged the public to refrain from replying to these emails or making any requested payments, noting that these fraudulent activities could severely damage the reputation of the police force and undermine public trust.
