Sri Lanka, Sept. 4 -- The National System Operator requested the public to refrain from flying kites underneath, near, or around 220 kV and 132 kV high-voltage transmission lines, towers, and grid substations.

Several transmission line outages occurred after kites and kite strings became entangled with transmission lines, according to the National System Operator.

These incidents can cause electrical faults and lead to the automatic tripping of transmission lines, while entangled kites and strings require manual removal under controlled and safe conditions.

Such events can seriously affect the stability and security of the national power system and might trigger the tripping of generating units.
