Public trust outlasts temporary political power
Sri Lanka, June 8 -- Public trust in state institutions remains permanent despite the temporary nature of political power. Former Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Sabry stated this in a special note shared on his official social media account.
The popularity of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa gradually declined following the arrest of General Sarath Fonseka and the impeachment of then Chief Justice Dr Shirani Bandaranayake. Sabry noted this came from his personal observations. He stressed that treating individuals inhumanely based on concocted charges after they contributed uniquely to defeating terrorism constitutes a great sin with severe long-term consequences. History teaches valuable lessons that wise nations must learn.
