Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- The unrest at the Negombo, Mahara, New Magazine, Pallansena, and Kuruwita prisons resulted in property damage calculated at over 255 million rupees, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has revealed during a meeting of the 'Ratama Ekata' National Operations Council.

The council meeting was held yesterday(10) at the Presidential Secretariat, chaired by President Dissanayake.

Discussions at the meeting also focused on increasing the services of psychiatrists to minimise riotous behaviour among prison inmates.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara issued a gazette notification yesterday regarding the establishment of a prison in Tangalle.
