Sri Lanka, July 15 -- A prison guard who allegedly fired shots through the main gate during a clash at the Negombo prison was temporarily transferred to a different prison.

Prison Media Spokesperson, Prison Commissioner A.C. Gajanayake, stated that the transfer was made after considering a request made by the officer in question regarding his safety.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department informed the Negombo Magistrate's Court yesterday (14) that the Negombo prison clash started over an incident where a person named Katuwellegama Suresh threatened the life of a prison officer, claiming that the time allocated for him to exercise was insufficient.
