Sri Lanka, March 3 -- An official invitation to visit Sri Lanka was extended to His Holiness Pope Leo XVI on behalf of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Minister Bimal Rathnayake, currently visiting Italy, presented the invitation during a meeting yesterday. He met with Monsignor Mihaita Blaj, the Vatican's Deputy Secretary for Relations with States, to formally convey the proposal for the pontiff's visit.
