Sri Lanka, Sept. 27 -- Police have requested house and property owners to properly inspect and verify the background of individuals before renting out residential, commercial, or other properties to them.

Speaking to the media, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Sanjeewa Medawatte stated that drugs, weapons, and other items linked to criminal activities are frequently recovered from rented premises.

He pointed out that certain property owners lease out their properties without screening the tenants' backgrounds.

Police further warned that if criminal activity takes place within a property, property owners may also face legal action depending on existing legal provisions and circumstances.
