Police to initiate direct prosecutions against reckless drivers
Sri Lanka, June 28 -- Police officers received instructions to initiate direct legal action against reckless drivers instead of issuing spot fines.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety made this announcement, noting that the measure aims to curb dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, approximately 10,000 police officers are deployed islandwide for duties during the Poson season, according to Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Woottler.
