Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- Special police security has been provided to Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena following a threat to his life, according to police sources.

Four police officers, including a personal security officer and three other personnel, have been deployed for the magistrate's protection.

A senior police officer told our inquiries that a letter containing a death threat regarding a case being heard at the Fort Magistrate's Court had been sent to the magistrate, who in turn notified the Inspector General of Police in writing.

Consequently, the Inspector General of Police assigned the case to the Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
