Sri Lanka, Oct. 2 -- A police sergeant attached to the Malwathuhiripitiya police station has been suspended after a viral social media video caught him allegedly demanding a rather unusual bribe: one kilo of chicken meat.

The recording, which surfaced online, purportedly shows the officer bartering for poultry in exchange for granting bail to a suspect who had been taken into custody on the night of September 26, 2026.

The circulating footage triggered an immediate internal inquiry directed by the assistant superintendent of police overseeing Gampaha Division 04. Following the preliminary findings, disciplinary measures were swiftly enacted, resulting in the sergeant's suspension.
