Police probe theft at historic Sandagiri Seya
Sri Lanka, May 23 -- Police have launched a special investigation after a burglary was reported at the historic Sandagiri Seya Stupa in Hanthana, Kandy, a site revered by both local and international Buddhist devotees.
According to the chief incumbent of the temple, Venerable Gangasiripura Dhammaloka Thera, the incident occurred during the early hours of May 23, when unknown individuals broke open the two iron doors leading to the relic chamber of the stupa.
He stated that the matter was immediately reported to the Inspector General of Police, following which officers from the Kandy Headquarters Police swiftly arrived at the scene and commenced investigations.
