Sri Lanka, Oct. 26 -- Cinnamon Gardens Police have informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (26) that an investigation has been launched into alleged false statements made to the media by Balangoda Kassapa Thera.

The probe follows a complaint lodged at the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station by Jagath Basnayake, the organiser at the Pelawatte National People's Power headquarters. The complaint alleges that during a satyagraha held at Viharamahadevi Park demanding the release of imprisoned Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, Kassapa Thera issued deceptive and false statements to the media, inciting the public and breaching public trust.
