SriLanka, April 1 -- A police constable attached to the Kataragama Police Station faces immediate suspension after arriving in an intoxicated state to provide a statement at the Southern Province Special Investigation Unit.

The 38-year-old officer, a resident of Pettimaduwa Road, Batuvangala, Neluwa, arrived at the Senior DIG's office in Matara yesterday (31) for a scheduled inquiry.

Officials present at the unit noticed the constable appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Chief Inspector Jayasinghe, the Officer-in-Charge of Administration at the Matara Headquarters Police, subsequently directed the officer to the Matara General Hospital for a medical examination.
