Pharmacy owner remanded over illegal sale of prescription drugs
Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- The Mawanella Magistrate's Court ordered a 41-year-old pharmacy owner, known among drug users as "Pethi Akka", to be remanded until 22 September for allegedly selling prescription drugs without medical prescriptions for intoxication over several years.
The suspect, a resident of Ginihappitiya in Hemmathagama, was arrested at her pharmacy located at the Gampola Junction in Hemmathagama following a raid conducted by a joint team comprising Food and Drug Inspector S. A. R. J. Sooraweera from the Kegalle Regional Director of Health Services Office and officers from the Hemmathagama Police led by Inspector Saman Kumara under the directions of OIC Chaminda Gunaratne.
