Sri Lanka, April 30 -- An owner of a private pharmacy received a fine of Rs. 100,000 from the Colombo Magistrate's Court today (30) for displaying expired infant formula packets unfit for human consumption.
Colombo Additional Magistrate H. D. D. J. Premaratne delivered the order after the Consumer Affairs Authority arrested and produced the suspect before the court today.
The fine targeted the owner of a private pharmacy located in the Colombo area.
Investigating officers informed the court that, according to the special gazette notification issued under Direction No. 52, it remains a punishable offence for all manufacturers, importers, distributors, and traders to identify food items as unfit for sale or expired yet continue to displa...
