Sri Lanka, Sept. 22 -- The Speaker informed Parliament of the Supreme Court's determination on the Anti-Corruption Amendment Bill, stating that specific clauses require a special two-thirds majority in Parliament alongside approval by the people at a referendum.

According to the determination, clauses 3, 4, 6.4, 6.5, 11.1, and 11.2 are consistent with the Constitution and may pass with a simple majority.

However, clause 6.7, clause 7, and the proposed repeal of section 81 E require a special majority under article 84, paragraph two of the Constitution.

Furthermore, clause 17 conflicts with articles 3 and 4. C, meaning it can only become law if passed by a special majority and approved by the public at a referendum under article 83.
