Sri Lanka, May 23 -- Severe weather conditions affecting the island have displaced 7,757 people belonging to 1,966 families across the districts of Ratnapura District, Gampaha District, Kalutara District, and Galle District, according to the Disaster Management Center (DMC).

The DMC stated that one death has also been reported due to the adverse weather.

In addition, 201 individuals from 58 families are currently being sheltered in six safety centers.

The agency also reported 123 partially damaged houses as a result of the severe weather conditions.

Within the 24-hour period ending this morning (23), the highest rainfall was recorded in Alawala in the Gampaha District, measuring 137.8 mm.
