Sri Lanka, March 17 -- The Opposition Leader, Sajith Premadasa, has called for a parliamentary debate on the current global situation to be brought forward to Wednesday to accommodate religious observations.
The two-day session was originally slated for Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March. However, speaking in the House today, Mr Premadasa noted that the Friday session overlaps with the Ramazan festival. He argued that the scheduling would prevent Muslim Members of Parliament from participating in the debate due to their religious commitments.
The Leader of the House, Bimal Ratnayake, informed Parliament that a final decision on the rescheduling would be reached during today's meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business.
