Ombudsman appointment awaits Prosecutor's Office report
Sri Lanka, June 26 -- The Ombudsman will be appointed following the receipt of the report on the distribution of powers from the prosecutor's office, according to Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara.
This was mentioned by Minister Nanayakkara, in response to the query from Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith P. Perera today, during parliamentary proceedings, on the delay in appointing a parliamentary Ombudsman as outlined in the NPP policy statement.
Minister Nanayakkara explained that the establishment of the prosecutor's office requires a clear definition of the Attorney General's role and the specific powers delegated to the prosecutors.
