No Sri Lankans reported caught in sudden floods in Nepal
Sri Lanka, Oct. 11 -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says no Sri Lankans have so far been reported caught in a sudden flood in the Budhi Gandaki River in Nepal's Gorkha District, in the country's central region.
Ministry spokesperson Thushara Rodrigo said the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu had also advised Sri Lankans living in Nepal to avoid travelling to the affected area.
The flash flood occurred today, October 11.
Nepalese authorities have said rainfall may not have caused the sudden flooding.
The country's Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology suspects that a sudden release of water from a lake following the melting of ice may have triggered the incident.
