Sri Lanka, Sept. 28 -- Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka stated that the government cannot provide a specific timeline or percentage for reducing electricity tariffs, despite ongoing plans to expand solar power, renewable energy, and battery storage.

Speaking at a media briefing on Saturday, he explained that tariff cuts depend on how generation costs evolve over successive years.

The Ceylon Electricity Board and related institutions adjust cost assumptions annually, meaning lower costs from incoming renewable energy will be factored in progressively rather than following a fixed schedule.
