Sri Lanka, April 30 -- The General Treasury informed the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka that the government will provide a 15 billion rupee subsidy, despite National System Operator Private Limited requesting an 18% increase in electricity tariffs. Jayanath Herath, Director of Communications for the commission, told Hiru News that the commission recommended a 95% tariff hike is unnecessary for consumers due to this financial support.
