Sri Lanka, April 21 -- The Gokarella Police have arrested nine suspects in connection with the brutal assault of a woman that sparked widespread outrage across social media.

The incident occurred on April 16 in the Medalanda area of Gokarella.

The assault gained national attention after a video of the attack, recorded by a bystander, was uploaded and circulated online.

Following the incident, the suspects fled the area to evade capture.

According to the Police Media Division, a comprehensive investigation led by the Gokarella Police station resulted in the apprehension of the group.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the conflict stemmed from a long-standing dispute between relatives.
