Sri Lanka, Sept. 27 -- Nine individuals travelling with sharp weapons have been arrested by the police in the Jaffna area.

The suspects were travelling in a car and two motorcycles when they were discovered during a sudden inspection conducted by police officers.

Police stated that several sharp weapons and Rs.900,000 in cash were recovered from inside the car.

Investigations are currently underway to ascertain whether the group was planning to commit a crime using the weapons.

Following their arrest, the suspects were produced before the Jaffna Magistrate's Court and remanded for 14 days.
