Sri Lanka, Nov. 7 -- Government authorities are currently drafting new legislation aimed at abolishing the manpower labour system operating in the country, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe stated.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing the National Trade Union Conference held in Colombo today (07).

Samarasinghe further stated that the government does not approve of the practice of paying an intermediary for workers who provide their services through direct employment.

He emphasised that the struggle, which continued for years to secure permanent employment and protect the rights of manpower workers, would be further strengthened in the future.
