New initiative launched to protect shark population
Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- A special discussion was initiated to protect Sri Lanka's shark population under the chairmanship of the Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, Dr. B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa.
The meeting resolved to formulate a new framework, in collaboration with NARA, to protect shark species residing in local waters.
Discussions also focused on establishing a systematic database to accurately trace every shark caught by multi-day fishing craft, from the point of capture to the ultimate consumer.
